The Haller Enterprises technician Luke arrived to perform an annual servicing of our tankless water heater, which we originally had installed on October 31, 2008, almost exactly 18 years ago. Luke was very knowledgeable and professional and knew exactly what to do in order to run a de-scaling liquid through the copper coils of the tankless water heater on a continuous loop where the liquid was circulated through the system for a full hour. If it had needed an hour and a half, Luke would have stayed that extra half hour, but based on how good everything was looking in the bucket (see the attached photos) the one hour cycle was more than enough. Luke thinks that we will likely get at least another 2-4 years out of this Rinnai tankless water heater, based on how well it is still performing now and given what we know to be the typical lifespan of these types of on-demand hot water heaters.
I also had another Haller technician, Safwan, come over on the same day, October 15, 2026, to perform my Fall checkup on my furnace and humidifier prior to winter setting in. My 10.5 year old Trane system and Aprilaire humidifier checked out fine (Safwan installed a new water panel in the humidifier and thoroughly cleaned out all the calcium deposits prior to installing the water panel), but Safwan spotted a potentially dangerous situation developing with the sheet metal exhaust pipe which carries the carbon monoxide up and out of our house. Using his cameras that he snaked into some tight areas, there was a heck of a lot of rust building up on the inside of the exhaust piping right where that piping exits the furnace and it was also in the elbow joint of piping that the first pipe connects to. A lot of flaked off rust particles from the insides of these sheet metal pipes had settled down into the opening of our system’s inducer motor, which would have eventually caused that very expensive part to fail. And if any pinholes ever developed in those pipes due to further rusting, then carbon monoxide could have begun entering our house. So we had Safwan replace the pipe and elbow joint that you can see in the photos that I attached. This is a great example of why doing Fall system checkups is worth the money, to prevent developing problems from becoming a major financial expense and to also keep us safe from a potential carbon monoxide issue from
occurring at some point.
